Part of the prestigious ʺIuliu Haţieganuʺ University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the Faculty of Medicine in Cluj-Napoca is a modern and dynamic faculty. The Medicine of Cluj is distinguished by excellence and care for the sick person, fundamental values stated since the establishment of the Faculty by its founders, but also present nowadays in the work carried out day by day and at the same time in the development strategy of the Faculty.
The Faculty of Medicine holds the Diploma for Quality Recognition – ʺLabel CIDMEFʺ, a certificate of quality and performance that considers compliance of the education process with CIDMEF rules (International Conference of Deans and Faculties of Medicine of French Expression), institutional network of the Francophone University Agency (AUF – Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie), which presently has 140 member faculties, from 40 countries, on 4 continents. It is the first faculty of medicine in Central and South-Eastern Europe which has obtained this certificate of quality of the educational process.
With an expanding infrastructure – spacious lecture rooms, laboratories at European level, access to successful clinics, fully computerized libraries, new student dormitories, student canteen, sports facilities – our Faculty is the most representative in Transylvania, listed in A category nationally.
Graduation diplomas are recognized both in the European Union and across the world, which gives our graduates the advantage of entering the labour market, allowing them to easily adapt to various public or private health systems.
Access to university studies is based on a demanding entrance examination.
Modern, student-centred curriculum, adapted to the European models, aims the customization of professional development according to the aptitudes and aspirations of every young beneficiary. Assessment of students – from current verifications to Bachelor’s graduation examination – seeks for relevant answers both in theoretical and practical terms. The Faculty of Medicine in Cluj offers four Bachelor’s degree programs where over 4,500 students are studying. Please note that the Faculty of Medicine in Cluj is one of the few universities in the world that offers a program of study (medicine) in three languages: Romanian, English and French. French language study program runs since 2000, and the study program in English since 2012. In these specializations, courses and student assessment are done in the foreign language of study, while clinical placements, starting in the fourth year, are conducted in Romanian, which foreign students learn during the first three years.
Due to the outstanding quality of their training, the graduates of the foreign specializations of our faculty turn to the ambassadors of Cluj medical school all over the world, increasing its reputation and its value.
The Faculty implements the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) and the diploma supplement is successfully integrated into the university culture.

Centre of Practical Skills and Simulation in Medicine – CAPSIM
Clinical education is also supported by a major investment of the University, which provides learning and training opportunities for all levels of practice, especially in surgical subjects. The purpose of establishment of the Centre is the increase in the safety of medical care. The new simulation-based learning methods allow gaining adequate medical skills and attitudes, in an organized framework, under the supervision of competent instructors, following a well-structured and risk-free to patient schedule.
Students’ Practical Skills Booklet
The practical activity of students in the skills centre is guided by the practical skills booklet. The practical skills booklet has defined a list of basic skills and knowledge in medical education at the Bachelor’s degree level. The paper is a guidebook to the hospital and laboratory activities, with recommendations on activities that students must undertake. The practical skills booklet is received by each student in the first year of study.
Summer Internship Booklet
During summer, students complete their medical training by conducting ʺSpecialized medical internshipsʺ. The activity of students during the summer internship is guided by the Summer Internship Booklet, which includes the educational objectives, general objectives, specific objectives, syllabus / theme, description of mandatory manoeuvres, portfolio of activities and check-list, for each year.
Career Counselling Guidebook for Medicine Students
It describes the factors that determine the choice of the specialty by medical students, presents all medical specialties insisting on what it means to work as a medical specialist in that specialty and it comprises a chapter on career management. This guide is the first of its kind in our country, it is adapted to the structure of residency training in Romania and it shall help students to choose their specialty.
